Link Logger / Linksys Versions
As some Linksys owners have already found out when
applying firmware updates, not all Linksys models are created equal.
For example there are at least 5 different hardware models of the
Linksys BEFW11S4, where the newer, models include Protocol
information in their logging stream and require the Protocol
logging version of Link Logger, were as the older models don't
include protocol information and require the nonProtocol
logging version of Link Logger. This also applies to BEFSR41
for example where there are multiple hardware versions. So how
do you know when you have the wrong version of Link Logger
installed? Couple of things to watch for:
1. The traffic counters increment, but nothing is
shown in the traffic lists.
2. Check Link Logger's Messages report and if
there are a lot of parsing errors then it is likely you require the
other version of Link Logger.
Link Logger's Messages report shows all Link
Logger operational messages, errors and Linksys logging events which
are not traffic related. So if your running the wrong version
of Link Logger meaning Protocol / nonProtocol logging version
you will see Link Logger errors in the Messages report.

In this example a Protocol logging version
of Link Logger is being used with a Linksys product which does not
include protocol information in its logging stream. So you
would need to uninstall the Protocol logging version of Link
Logger and then download and install the
nonProtocol
logging version.

In this example a nonProtocol logging
version of Link Logger is being used with a Linksys product which
does include protocol information in its logging stream. So
you would need to uninstall the nonProtocol logging version
of Link Logger and then download and install the
Protocol logging
version.
Hopefully this helps our clients select and
download the correct version of Link Logger for their Linksys
product. If you have any support questions concerning Link
